Laura Clark, feeling blessed.There are always people who criticize pageants that promote at-large titles or the girls/women who receive the titles. Let's talk about the heartbreak and financial struggle that take place when girls enter local and state pageants year after year, totally deserving of the chance to have the national pageant experience, and "only one winner can be crowned," so they never get that chance. This is why we offer at-large titles. A teen parent recently wrote me, saying thank you for giving his daughter a title. He described her history with anxiety and depression, and said, "Over the past few years, she has made much progress and is growing into a healthy and fun young woman. Participating in pageants has given us the opportunity to laugh and learn about make up and hair and designers and travel. It does her well to write down all the good she is, while doing good in the world. Pageants are helping her boost her self esteem and in return make smarter life choices. To see her cry in happiness today when she put on her crown is worth more than the world, and I want to say thank you for that." <3
