Tasked as student to "design something to fill actual needs" she designed a coat that turns into a sleeping bag for the homeless, then hired and trained shelter residents to make them: "What really would have the impact is hiring the people that would need them in the first place. We hire only people from homeless shelters and train them from sewing and manufacturing to employment to tech whatever they need to become more independent. We're trying to give them the power to take control of the life that they want to lead. No matter what you've gone through you still could do a lot with what you have."
