"Alex Rice and Steve Bandura (and the other coaches leading Taney Little League 12U in the Little League World Series) represent so many moms and dads from Taney Youth Baseball Association and Marian Anderson Rec. and other rec centers who have poured themselves into the game to support their kids, others' kids, the rec centers, and each other over the years...the amount of time and money devoted to this, not to mention the disruption of evening routines in a family with four kids. Whoa. But as my kids get older and the opportunities to spend hours of quality bonding time with them being to wane, I've come to appreciate the devotion of my husband Bob and other baseball parents (many of whom were/are volunteer coaches) more and more.So I'll seize this moment to express my gratitude to all the parents who transformed Philly's urban recreation centers and made it possible for the Dragons and Monarchs to exist (the late Bobby Hyland + Steve Bandura in particular). And, let's not forget the Palumbo Rec Center Panthers devotees and, of course, Alex's foresight to put together a Little League team."
