Description
Yesterday:
1. I am always grateful for Fridays (TGIF!).
2. I am grateful for Johnny Manziell and the fighting Texas Aggies as they beat OU in the Cotton Bowl 41-13. Whoop!
3. I am grateful for my daughter, who spent the evening watching the game with me and asking questions about football and Texas A&M. I am hopeful that I will convince her to go to my alma mater.
Today:
1. I am always grateful for Saturday mornings because I get to sleep late.
2. I am grateful for Saturday movie matinees (a weekend tradition for my daughter and me).
3. I am especially grateful for the kindness of strangers, which never cease to amaze me. I had been meaning to sell the shotgun collecting dust in my closet ever since the shootings at the elementary school in Newtown, CT. I don't want to own a gun anymore, because I don't want to provide an opportunity for someone else to commit such a heinous act with something I own. So I took the gun to a pawn shop to sell. The clerk asked me how much I wanted for it. I had bought it a decade ago for $250, so I thought it was fair to ask for $150. I had only shot the gun on one occasion (shooting clay pigeons), and really had no use for it now. The owner agreed to give me $150, but then after talking to me for a few minutes, he told the clerk to give me $250 for it. How does that happen that someone offers you more than what you had originally asked for? He said he realized I didn't know the true value of what I was selling. He said he'd still make a good profit selling it. With all the evil in the world, there are still a lot of good people out there.
