Yesterday, it was a stronger voice and walking to the mailbox alone - very small things in a very big illness of my husband. But they were markers that he is healing after 17 months of being very sick. First it was the unknow illness that hospitalized him twice. Then it was 9 months of diagnostic detective work by committed medical professionals, then it was treatment for his disease that caused heart problems as a severe complication, then it was open heart surgery to replace his aorta and aortic valve, now it is continued treatment of disease and healing from surgery. Every single day has been a gift to us of his life, from dedicated professionals striving to heal him to the tiny steps of recovery to the meals people delivered to us to the continued prayers and offers of support to us. We are grateful for his life every day now. And yesterday, I was grateful that he made a grocery list for me - one of his normal jobs is shopping and it has been difficult for me to pick up all that he did and help him through this illness, too. A grocery list was a big deal to be grateful for, indeed!
