Description
"May and her friends at Bon Air United Methodist Church heard about a group of housing-challenged George Wythe High School seniors — some homeless, others living with relatives or friends — who were about to graduate. They figured the last thing anyone would think to do would be to throw a party for such students, so they jumped into action.
That’s when May started meeting the students and hearing their stories.
Her party quickly grew into a self-esteem-building outreach program called Change the World RVA."
“Natalie is a true example of how one caring individual can make a huge difference in the community, and she encourages others to look beyond their own personal bubbles to reach out to the next generation of young people,” says a letter from Paula Squires and Walter Graham, community leaders themselves and recent additions to the Change board of directors.
May wouldn’t mind reaching out to more people in the community.
“We don’t need a million dollars,” she said. “We need some bus passes.”
