The Wild West Coast

  My 11 year old daughter and I had 3 days of alone-time at our little family cottage perched on a 200 foot cliff overlooking the wild west coast near Auckland, NZ. It is a gloriously simple cottage with solar electricity and tank water and no electronics at all. We took daily walks on the windswept dark sand beach with our labradoodle Piha, played imaginary wolf games in the dunes, and in the evenings played cards and did endless jigsaw puzzles and read books to each other. We ate too many pancakes and slept together in the big double bed that looks out over the pacific ocean ... where the next stop Australia!
